Abstract
Ex-post—facto research design was followed in carrying out the research work entitled “Analysis offactors responsible for child marriages in NizamabaddistrictofAndhraPradesh State” was selected. Threemandals were selectedpurposively. Attherate of threevillages fromeach mandal nine villages wereselected. 10respondentswereselected from each villagepurposively. Astructuredinterview schedule wasdeveloped for the measurement ofselectedvariablesandwasusedfor the collectionofdata. The fi ndings emerged out of the study were: Majority of the respondents belonged to young age category, Hindu religion, backward caste, agricultural /otheroccupational labourers. Majorityofthe respondents had no literacy,verylowageatthetimeofmarriage,brickwallandtiledhouseandlow levelofaspiration. Majorfactorsresponsibleforchildmarriageswereilliteracyofboth bride, bridegroomandtheirparents/grandparents, lackofurbanexposure and povertyoffamilies. Nearly30.00percentofthechildmarriagesweredivorced. Major reasonsasperceivedbytherespondentsfordivorcewerelackofmutualadjustment oftemperamentsandextramaritalloveaffairwithsomeoneelse. Nearly50.00percentofthebrideshadmediumhealthstatusand 46.67percentofthebridegroomshadhighhealthstatus. Majorproblems as perceived bythe respondents were burden of social customs and traditions, lack oftraining on independent earning before marriageandmorechancesofdivorce. Majorsuggestions asperceivedbytherespondents weremarriage shouldtakeplaceafter18yearsforagirland21yearsforaboy. So,he/sheknows thesocialcustoms/traditions;marriageshouldbec0nductedbyparentsafterthey wereeconomicallyindependent,massmediahasaveryimportantroletoplayin makingthepeopleawareaboutthebadeffectsofchildmarriages.
