Abstract
The investigation “Studies on effect of seedling pruning and Gibberellic acid and its application methods on growth, yield and quality of rabi onion (Allium cepaL.) underagroclimatic condition of Chhattisgarh plains” was conducted during the year 2015-16 and 2016-17 at Horticulture Research cum Instructional Farm, Department of vegetable science, Indira Gandhi KrishiVishwavidyalaya, and Raipur (C.G.) The experiment consist of three pruning treatments, viz. (i) Root pruning, (ii) leaf pruning, (iii) Root and leaf pruning and six Gibberellic acid and its application methods at (i) 50 ppm as root dip, (ii) 50 ppm as foliar spray, (iii) 100 ppm as root dip,(iv) 100 ppm as foliar spray, (v) 150 ppm as root dip, (vi) 150 ppm as foliar spray and one absolute control. The two factor experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design (Factorial) with three replications. There were all together 19 treatments in this combination. Result revealed that P2i.e.Leaf pruning treatment produced significantly higher values of growth parameters (plant height, number of leaves plant-1, pseudostem length, pseudostem width, fresh weight of leavesplant-1, dry weight of leavesplant-1, number of rootsplant-1and root length ), yield attributes (bulb diameter, bulb length, bulb shape, average bulb weight, moisture content, bulb fresh weight, bulb size, weight of different grade bulb) as well as total bulb yield, marketable bulb yield and % marketable bulb yield and qualitative characters like dry weight of bulb, lower bolting percentage, total soluble solid, dry matter content of bulb, NPK content in leaf and bulb, sulphur content in bulb, ascorbic acid content in bulb, neck- diameter, days to crop maturity and chlorophyll content (a & b), then root pruning alone and leaf and root pruning during both years (2015-16 and 2016-17) and on the basis of mean data. As regards to Gibberellic acid and its application methods, treatment G6i.e. Gibberellic acid at 150 ppm as foliar spray proved superior and gave significantly higher growth parameters (plant height, number of leaves plant-1, pseudostem length, pseudostem width, fresh weight of leavesplant-1, dry weight of leavesplant-1number of roots plant-1and root length) yield attributes (bulb diameter, bulb length, bulb shape, average bulb weight, moisture content, bulb fresh weight, weight of different grade bulb) as well as total bulb yield, marketable bulb yield and % marketable bulb yield and qualitative characters like dry weight of bulb, lower bolting percentage, total soluble solid, NPK content in leaf and bulb, sulphur content in bulb, ascorbic acid content in bulb, neck- diameter, days to crop maturity and chlorophyll content (a & b)during both years (2015-16 and 2016-17) and on the basis of mean data. The interactions among P2G6i.e.leaf pruning alongwithGibberellic acid at150 ppm as foliar spray recorded significantly highest growth, yield attributes, yield and qualitative characters of onion during both years (2015-16 and 2016-17) and on the basis of mean data. The maximum gross income (428420, 438420 and 433330Rs. ha-1), net income (334147.40, 347865.30 and 341006.40 Rs. ha-1,respectively)and B:C ratio (1.92, 2.15 and 2.08 respectively) was registered under interaction among P2G6i.e.leaf pruning alongwithGibberellic acid at150 ppm as foliar spray during both years (2015-16 and 2016-17) and on the basis of mean data.
