Abstract
A study was carried out in Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu to assess the production and marketing constraints perceived by women SHG members and non-members who reared livestock. A detailed questionnaire in relation to various aspects of production and marketing constraints involved in livestock rearing were enlisted and the women livestock farmers from SHG members and non members in the study area were asked to rank the each constraint which was analyzed using Garret's ranking technique. Access to credit facility was perceived to be the prime constraint in non- members whereas it was perceived to be a least constraint among the members of SHGs. Lack of marketing information and type of procurement agencies were perceived as the major marketing constraints among members, whereas non members felt type of procurement agencies and low price of livestock products as serious constraints.
