Assessment of the Immune Status in “Withaferin A” Treated Rats in Experimental Mammary Carcinogenesis by Flow Cytometry

Abstract
The present study was carried out to evaluate the immunomodulatory effect of Withaferin A in DMBA (7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene) induced mammary carcinogenesis in rats. Twenty four female Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were equally distributed to control, DMBA, DMBA+Tamoxifen (Standard drug) and DMBA+Withaferin A groups. Peripheral blood was collected at the 120th day from the initial dose of DMBA and CD3, total T lymphocytes were determined by using  ow cytometry. There was signi cant (P<0.05) increase in the total T lymphocytes (CD3) in the DMBA+Withaferin A group from DMBA+Tamoxifen group indicating immunostimulatory effect of Withaferin A.
