Abstract
The study entitled livelihood security through lac cultivation among tribal farmers of simdega district was carried out at the centre for agribusiness management, Birsa agricultural university Kanke Ranchi (J.H.) during the year 2017.The present study was conducted under 60 lac producer from 4 village Pabuda, Kendula, Tutikel and Ramjadi in Bano and Kolebira block of Simdega district. The socio economic status of lac producer most of the respondent(93.3%) lives in single family , most of the respondent(75%) are only taken the primary and high school education and remain lac grower(11.6%) are illiterate, only few lac growers(13.3%)completed intermediate and graduation, so the literacy rate was observed low in study area. Most of the selected lac growers (85%) have marginal and small land holding very less lac grower (15%) have medium size of land holding. Further livelihood through lac cultivation, estimated annual income, income through lac, employment, assets, training exposure and connection of SHG of 60 lac grower was observed. The annual income of most lac grower (66.6%) was25000 to 75000, and income through lac cultivation of most lac grower (83.2%) was 0 to 50000. Most of the lac growers (73.3%) was untrained and very few were connected with Lac SHG (6.6%) and other SHG (18.3%). And these were the technology used in lac cultivation within the study area- Pruning of lac host (100%)t, Budding of broodlac and tagging on plant(100%), Phunki removal(100%), Selection of good quality of brood lac (86.6%). While the constraints of lac farming are access to market, poor pricing, lack of awareness, lack of training, crop theft and weather destroying was found.
