Abstract
A field experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2013-14 at the College Farm, N. M. College of Agriculture, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari to study the „„weed management in coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) under South Gujarat condition”. The experiment consisted of ten weed management treatments [viz., W1: Pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha as pre-emergence, W2: Pretilachlor 1.5 kg/ha as pre-emergence, W3: Pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha as pre-emergence + Quizalofop ethyl 0.04 kg/ha at 20 DAS, W4:Pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha as pre-emergence + Metribuzin 0.30 kg/ha at 20 DAS, W5:Pretilachlor 1.5 kg/ha as pre-emergence + Quizalofop ethyl 0.04 kg/ha at 20 DAS, W6: Pretilachlor 1.5 kg/ha as pre-emergence + Metribuzin 0.30 kg/ha at 20 DAS, W7: Quizalofop ethyl 0.04 kg/ha at 20 DAS + One hand weeding 40 DAS, W8: Metribuzin 0.30 kg/ha at 20 DAS + One hand weeding 40 DAS, W9: Two hand weeding at 20 & 40 DAS and W10: Weedy check (Control)] were evaluated on coriander cv. Gujarat coriander 2. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design with four replications. The soil of the experimental field was clayey in texture, medium in available nitrogen (267 kg/ha) and phosphorus (32.1 kg/ha) and fairly rich in available potassium (342 kg/ha) during the years of 2013-14. The soil was slightly alkaline in reaction (pH 7.9) with normal electrical conductivity (0.33 dSm-1). Almost all the growth and yield attributing characters of coriander crop viz., plant height, number of branches/plant, dry matter accumulation, number of umbels/plant, number of umbellates/umbel, seeds/umbellate, yield/plant, seed and straw yield significantly influenced by various treatments of weed management. The results revealed that significant higher values of all the growth and yield attributes characters were recorded under the treatment W3 (Pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha as pre-emergence + Quizalofop ethyl 0.04 kg/ha at 20 DAS), which was found superior to rest of the treatments except treatment W9 (Two hand weeding at 20 & 40 DAS) and W4 (Pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha as pre-emergence + Metribuzin 0.30 kg/ha at 20 DAS). As a consequence the higher seed (747 kg/ha) and straw yields (1977 kg/ha) were recorded with the treatment W3 (Pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha as pre-emergence + Quizalofop ethyl 0.04 kg/ha at 20 DAS), However, it was remained at par with treatmentW9 (Two hand weeding at 20 & 40 DAS). Irrespective of growth stages, treatments Pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha as pre-emergence + Quizalofop ethyl 0.04 kg/ha at 20 DAS (W3), Two hand weeding at 20 & 40 DAS (W9) and Pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha as pre-emergence + Metribuzin 0.30 kg/ha at 20 DAS (W4) were emerged out to be the most efficient in keeping significantly lower population of monocot, dicot and sedge weeds at 20 DAS, 40 DAS and at harvest over weedy check (W10). The treatment Pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha as preemergence + Quizalofop ethyl 0.04 kg/ha at 20 DAS (W3) significantly reduced the dry weight of weeds over treatment weedy check (W10), with reasonably lower weed index and higher weed control efficiency. The highest net realization of Rs. 13303 /ha and BCR of 1.66 was obtained with treatment W3 (Pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha as pre-emergence + Quizalofop ethyl 0.04 kg/ha at 20 DAS) which was followed by Rs. 12713 /ha and BCR of 1.65 under treatment W9. On the basis of results obtained in present investigation, it seems quite logical to conclude that potential production and profit in rabi coriander cv. Gujarat coriander-2 as well as weed management under South Gujarat condition can be achieved by conventional method 2 HW at 20 & 40 DAS, where labours are easily available. Alternatively, where farm labours are scare, weed can be control by application of Pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha as preemergence + Quizalofop ethyl 0.04 kg/ha at 20 DAS.
