Abstract
The present investigations entitled “Effect of organic manure and growing conditions on plant growth, yield and quality of Strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.)” was carried out in Fruit Orchad, College of Horticulture, VCSG, Uttarakhand University of Horticulture and Forestry, Bharsar during 2015-2016. In this study, with sixteen treatments and three replications having different doses of farm yard manure, vermi compost and combination of both under two different conditions i.e. open field condition and net house. In present investigation it was observed that were applied under net house condition T14 (Farm Yard Manure 25 tonnes/hac + 20 tonnes/hac Vermicompost) was found best for plant growth and yield which gives maximum leaf area (34.40cm2), maximum plant height (31.73cm), maximum flower duration (56.46 days), maximum fruit size (6.43length x width), maximum acidity (1.85%), maximum ascorbic acid (12.86 mg/100g). While under open field condition T9 (Farm Yard Manure 15 tonnes/hac +25 tonnes/hac Vermicompost) gives a minimum days taken to new growth (12.63 days), maximum flower/bunch (16.58), maximum fruit/plant (9.66), maximum % of fruit setting (82.33%), maximum TSS (15.630B), maximum fruit yield/plant (60.91kg/plant), and maximum fruit yield/plot (548.19 kg/plot). Thus in the present study it was observed that net house condition with the combine application of Farm Yard Manure and Vermicompost found best for the plant growth and yield of strawberry. While open field condition with the application of Farm Yard Manure and Vermicompost was recorded best for the quality of fruits.
