Abstract
The investigations on, “Biological suppression of shoot and fruit borer [Leucinodes
orbonalis (L.) Guenee] on brinjal (Solanum melongena L.)” were conducted on Horticultural
Farm and Department of Entomology, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur during Kharif
2016. Brinjal variety SHASHI (040) was transplanted on four staggered dates: 10th August, 25th
August, 10th September and 25th September, 2016 to compare the incidence of the shoot and
borer. The maximum shoot damage was recorded after 2 months of crop duration. Among dates
of transplantation, the 3rd transplanted crop recorded the maximum shoot borer infestation with
the mean damage of 18.01 per cent; while the 4ht transplanted crop recorded the minimum shoot
borer infestation with the mean damage of 15.95 per cent. The maximum fruit damage was
recorded after 19 weeks of crop duration. The 3rd transplanted crop recorded highest fruit borer
incidence with the mean damage of 17.65 per cent on fruit number basis and 15.75 per cent on
fruit weight basis.
Releases of egg parasitoid @ 1.5 lac/ha (T6 and T5) were found most effective with mean
shoot damage of 11.96 and 12.66 per cent, respectively; while, the least effective treatments were
release of T. chilonis @ 50000/ha (T2 and T1) with mean shoot damage of 17.78 and 18.12 per
cent. Similarly, against fruit borer damage, six and eight times release of T. chilonis @ 1.5 lac/ha
(T6 and T5) was most effective with mean fruit damage of 11.67 & 9.80 per cent on number
basis; 11.59 and 9.90 per cent per cent fruit damage on weight basis. While, the least effective
treatments observed were release six and eight times T. chilonis @ (T1 and T2) with mean fruit
damage of 17.66 & 16.10 per cent on number basis; 17.55 and 16.02 per cent on weight basis.
