Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Genetic variability and path analysis is soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill]” was carried out with one ninety eight germplasm along with three checks to study about seed yield, its components and quality characters. These germplasm were planted in augmented randomized block design with 6 blocks during Kharif, 2003 at experimental farm, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, RCA, Udaipur. Observations were recorded for 10 characters viz., days to flowering, plant height, branches per plant, pods per plant, 100-seed weight, seed yield per plant, biological yield per plant, harvest index, seed protein and oil content. The observations were recorded on twenty randomly selected plants in each plot for all the characters except days to flowering and data so obtained were subjected to analysis of variance, estimation of variability parameters, correlations and path coefficient analysis. Analysis of variance revealed significant difference among treatments, checks and germplasm for all the characters indicating presence of sufficient variability in the material under study. GCV was recorded high for branches per plant, pods per plant and biological yield per plant. High values of heritability were recorded for pods per plant, plant height and biological yield per plant. Genetic gain was high for branches per plant, biological yield per plant and pods per plant.
