Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Response of phytoregulators on fruit setting, yield and quality of muskmelon (Cucumis melo. L.) hybrid- Trisha under polyhouse condition” was carried out at Research Farm of Centre of Excellence on Protected Cultivation and Precision Farming under poly house, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur (C.G.) during the year 2016-2017 employing factorial randomized block design having nine treatments replicates three times. The treatment consisted eight different combinations of phytoregulator along with one control (T1) viz., T2: Pollination+ 10 ppm CPPU, T3: Pollination+ 20 ppm CPPU, T4: Pollination+ 30 ppm CPPU, T5: Pollination+ 40 ppm CPPU, T6: Unpollinated+ 10 ppm CPPU, T7: Unpollinated+ 20 ppm CPPU, T8: Unpollinated+ 30 ppm CPPU and T9: Unpollinated+ 40 ppm CPPU. The phytoregulator was applied to the flower at the time of anthesis. The experiment was conducted on muskmelon crop hybrid- Trisha with application of phytoregulator CPPU on ovary of flower at the time of anthesis. Amongst the treatment in control (T1) vs. rest, control recorded maximum fruit set (95.33%) which was found significantly superior over rest having minimum fruit set (79.29%). Similarly, on individual effect maximum fruit set was recorded under hand pollinated condition (95.33%) and 40 ppm concentration (97.95%). Under treatment combination T5 (pollination + 40 ppm CPPU), recorded maximum fruit set (95.33%), while minimum in T6 (Unpollinated + 10 ppm CPPU). The quality parameters of fruits in terms of total soluble solids, reducing, non-reducing, total sugar, fruit pH and ascorbic acid content of the fruit were found a higher status with the treatment T5 (Pollination+ 40 ppm CPPU), while the acidity of fruit decreased by the application of same treatment. The data recorded on plant height and no. of primary branches per plant was found statistically at par under the present investigation. Similarly as far as the flowering characters i.e. days to flower initiation, days taken to initiation of first male flower and female flower, 50% flwering and male female flower ratio, the data recorded was found to be significantly at par under the present investigation. Physical parameters of muskmelon viz., fruit diameter and pulp seed ratio were also increased considerably with the treatments T5 (Pollination+ 40 ppm CPPU) whereas, a reduction in no. of seeds per fruit, no. of normal seeds per fruit and rind thickness was observed by the application of same treatment in pollinated and unpollinated condition as compared to control and other treatment combinations.
