Abstract
The term soldiering coined by Frederick W Taylor which means workers
systematically collaborating to work below capacity. Taylor’s concept of soldiering is
used to study the level of soldiering and factors related with soldiering among the
technical personnel of UAS Bangalore. This study was taken up with the objectives to
analyse the level of soldiering, factors related to soldiering and to find the suggestions to
overcome the soldiering among the technical personnel of UAS, Bangalore. The
soldiering was analysed in three levels like viz. high level, medium level and low level
soldiering. Self-awareness, defining quality and productivity, organizational climate,
management style, working hours and situation, competency in task, financial incentives,
leadership and factors influencing counterproductive work behavior were considered as
soldiering dimensions along with the factors viz. age, gender, education and experience of
technical personnel. Medium level of soldiering was observed among the technical
personnel of UAS, Bangalore. 60 per cent of Assistant Professors and Associate
Professors and 53.33 per cent of Professors were under medium level of soldiering.
Results of simple regression analysis showed the negative impact between financial
incentives with age and job experience of Assistant Professors and similar result was
observed between leadership and age. Similarly negative impact was found between job
experience and working hours and situation of Associate Professors. Whereas in case of
Professors negative impact was observed between self-awareness and education.
Suggestions regarding the security at work, working climate, recognition and rewarding,
leadership, work distribution and responsibilities were mainly highlighted by the
technical personnel.
