Abstract
The concept of entrepreneurship has assumed prime importance in the economy of a nation. The study of entrepreneurship is always full of exciting discovery about the profile and resourcefulness and can be studied for the purpose of understanding the behaviour of the entrepreneurs. Therefore, a study entitled, "Dynamics of Entrepreneurship Development for Income and Employment Generation of Farm Enterprises" was taken up with a view to know the sociopersonal profile, entrepreneurial traits and income and employment generation of farm entrepreneurs during the year 2009-2010. Based on the availability of entrepreneurs two districts namely, Jammu and Kathua were purposively selected for the study purpose. Thirty entrepreneurs each from seven enterprises viz., vegetable growing, strawberry growing, dairy farming, mushroom growing , bee keeping, poultry farming and flower growing were selected purposively, thus making a total of 210 entrepreneurs. Studies on 210 entrepreneurs revealed that 57.62 per cent of the entrepreneurs were in middle age group followed by 29.05 per cent who were young. Only 13.33 per cent respondents were in old age group. The education level of 33.33 per cent of the entrepreneurs was upto martic. Only 10 per cent of the respondents were graduate. The illiterate comprised of a small number (9.05 %). With respect to caste 38.09 per cent of the entrepreneurs were Rajputs followed by Brahmins (25.24%). Majority (45.71%) of the entrepreneurs were small land holders (l-2hectares). Social participation of the entrepreneurs was low as more than two- third of them were member of no organization. Only 1.90 per cent of the growers were member of more than one organization. A negligible size of entrepreneurs (1.90%) had business in partnership.
