Abstract
The present study was an attempt to assess the problems experienced and
resolutions perceived by urban boys and girls (9-12) years of age. A total sample
of 150 boys and girls between the age of 9-12 years were selected from the seven
Hindi medium senior secondary schools of Hanumangarh district.
A background information proforma was used to obtain the basic details
regarding the subjects and their families. A questionnaire (Sharma and Gir, 2000)
was used to identify the problems (academic and non academic) experienced by
boys and girls and an inventory (Sharma and Gir, 2000) was used to assess the
resolutions perceived by boys and girls (academic and non academic areas).
The data collected was coded and analyzed to achieve the objectives of the
present study. Percentage and mean scores were computed for each category of
questionnaire and inventory.
The major findings of the present investigation were:
1. Most of the girls and boys were first and second born and having 5-6
family members.
2. The problems experienced by most of the subjects in academic and non
academic areas were at moderate level.
3. In teacher related aspects boys experienced more problems than girls.
4. In parent related aspects girls experienced more problems than boys.
5. There was significant difference in problems experienced by boys and girls
in aspects related to school curriculum and hyperactivity.
6. The major areas of resolutions perceived by the subjects were more in
academic area.
7. The major resolutions which the subjects perceived as resolving their
problems were related to self and teacher.
