Abstract
The present investigation on, “Management of Insect Pests of cotton with novel Insecticides” was carried out at the Instructional Farm, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, MPUAT, Udaipur during kharif, 2013 with the objectives of recording the seasonal incidence of insect pests on cotton; bio-efficacy of insecticides against insect pests on cotton; and effect of insecticides on major natural enemies. The major sap sucking insect pests recorded on cotton included the aphids (Myzus persicae (Sulzer); Aphis gosssypii Glover), jassids (Amrasca biguttula biguttula Ishida, Empoasca sp.), whitefly (Bemisia tabaci Genn.) and thrips (Thrips tabaci Linn.). The sucking pest infestation began in 28th SMW and the peak population of aphids (48.20 aphids/plant) and thrips (40.63 thrips/plant) was in 44th and 36th SMW, respectively; whereas, the population of jassids and whitefly reached the peak with mean 24.40 jassids/plant and 34.66 whiteflies/ plant during the 36th SMW, respectively. The jassid and whitefly population was significantly and positively correlated to mean atmospheric temperature and mean relative humidity. Aphid population was positively correlated to mean atmospheric temperature and mean relative humidity. The mean relative humidity had significant positive correlation with the population of thrips. Among different insecticides tested, two sprays fipronil 5 SC @ 800 gm/ ha was found most effective against aphids and thrips as it recorded significantly maximum mean reduction of aphids (81.34%) and thrips (89.68%) population whereas, Acetamiprid 20 SP @ 100 ml/ ha caused maximum mean reduction of jassids and whitefly population as it recorded significantly maximum mean reduction of jassids (90.42) and white fly( 88.11%) over rest of the treatments at 5 days after spray. buprofezin (1000 ml/ ha) was recorded relatively safer to natural enemies, while acetamiprid (100 ml/ ha) was relatively more toxic to the natural enemies
