Abstract
A laboratory experiment was conducted on “Management of lesser grain borer, Rhizopertha dominica Fab. (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) infesting stored wheat” at Department of Entomology, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, and Post Harvest Technology Scheme, CTE, MPUAT, Udaipur during 2013-14. Among five wheat varieties screened against lesser grain borer, R. dominica HI-8498 was found resistant as it recorded minimum grain damage of 1.19 per cent, minimum weight loss of 0.96 per cent and minimum population build up with 6.36 adults upto 120 days of storage. While, Lok-1 was found susceptible as it recorded the highest grain damage of 20.38 per cent, 9.04 per cent weight loss and population build up with 26.25 adults. Among different inert dusts evaluated for their effectiveness against lesser grain borer upto 120 days, application of diatomaceous earth at 1.0 per cent was found superior with significantly highest 99.50 per cent adult mortality, with minimum grain damage (0.25%), and weight loss (0.13%) and least (0.75 adults) population build up. While, fly ash at 0.5 per cent and cow dung ash at 0.5 per cent were found least effective with minimum 70.30 and 72.84 per cent adult mortality, higher population build up with 17.92 and 16.75 adults, maximum 6.43 and 5.75 per cent grain damage and maximum 7.92 and 6.91 per cent weight loss, respectively. Among different plant products evaluated for their effectiveness against lesser grain borer upto120 days, neem seed kernel powder at 1.0 per cent was found superior where no grain damage, weight loss, population build up and cent per cent adult mortality was recorded. While, Jamun seed powder 0.5 per cent was found least effective with 93.25 per cent adult mortality, 10.83 adults (population build up), 7.31 per cent grain damage and 7.24 per cent weight loss. No adverse effect of inert dusts and plant products has been observed on the germination of wheat grains upto 120 days after storage.
