Abstract
A field experiment was conducted on “Relative efficacy of novel insecticides against sucking insect pests of okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench]” at Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur during July to October, 2010. The aphid Aphis gossypii (Glover), jassid Amrasca biguttula biguttula (Ishida) and whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) were recorded to infest okra crop throughout the growing season. The incidence of aphid, A. gossypii (Glover) was initiated in the second week of August. While, jassid, A. biguttula biguttula (Ishida) and whitefly, B. tabaci (Gennadius) in okra was commenced in fourth week of July. Aphid, jassid and whitefly touched the peak during fourth week of August (86.5 aphids/ten plants), first week of October (15.4 Jassids/ten plants) and first week of September (6.9 whiteflies/ten plants), respectively. The aphid and whitefly exhibited a positive correlation with temperature, relative humidity and negative correlation with total rainfall. However, the correlation was non significant. While, the correlation between jassid and temperature, relative humidity and rainfall was significantly negative. Among different treatments, two spray of Imidacloprid 40%+ Fipronil 40% 80 WG @ 100g/ha at 15 days interval were found significantly superior over all the treatment in terms of mean reduction in the population of sucking insect pests. It recorded mean marketable yield of 183.43q/ha which was significantly higher than all the treatments. Fipronil 80WG @ 50g/ha and Imidacloprid 200SL @ 200ml/ha followed the above treatment. None insecticides were found to cause phytotoxicity in okra.
