Abstract
A field experiment entitled “Performance of Ajwain (Trachyspermum ammi
L.) germplasm under Udaipur agro-climatic conditions” was conducted at the
Horticulture Farm, Department of Horticulture, Rajasthan College of Agriculture,
Udaipur during rabi season (October to April) 2011-12. The objectives of
experimentation were to study absolute performance of different germplasms for
growth, yield and quality along with suitable germplasm for Udaipur agro-climatic
conditions. The eleven germplasm were used as treatments under Randomized Block
Design with three replications.
The maximum number of primary branches per plant (11.70), number of
umbels per plant (140.00), and number of seeds per umbel (149.20) were recorded in
germplasm AA-27.
Similarly, the days to 50 per cent flowering of (80.67 days), days to 75 per
cent maturity in main umbel (149.55 days) and duration of complete anthesis in main
umbel (65.33 days) were also obtained significantly minimum in germplasm AA-27.
The maximum test weight (1.50 g) was recorded in germplasm Local Bht., to
all other germplasm.
The crop obtained highest seed yield (23.84 q/ha) in germplasm AA-27 which
was statistically significant between all the germplasms, followed by germplasm AA-
2 (20.33 q/ha) and AA-84 (20.17 q/ha) respectively. Whereas, the minimum seed
yield (11.00 q/ha) was obtained in germplasm AA-01-272.
The magnitudes of increase in seed yield were 116.72, 84.81 and 83.36 per
cent higher in germplasm AA-27, AA-2 and AA-84 respectively over AA-01-272
