Abstract
The present study was undertaken to study the home environment and general
well-being of urban boys and girls within the age range of 13-16 years belonging to
nuclear and joint families. The sample of 200 respondents (100 boys and 100 girls)
was selected from 6 non coeducational government schools of Udaipur city. A
preliminary survey was conducted in 8th to 10th class students to select sample as per
the delimitation of the study. To assess home environment and general well-being
inventory developed by K. S. Mishra (1989) and Kalia and Deswal (2011)
respectively were administered. The data was collected, coded and analyzed for each
of the tool and frequency –percentage was computed for each category. To compare
home environment and general well being of adolescents on the basis of gender and
type of family was analysed by using t-test for difference between two means and the
association between home environment and general well-being with regard to type of
family and gender was found by using Chi-Square. The results of the study revealed
that:
Majority of boys and girls perceived that their Home Environment is of
average to very poor quality and majority of boys and girls had low level of
General Well-being.
Non-Significant difference was found in the Home environment of adolescents
on the basis of gender and type of family.
Non-Significant difference was found in the General Well-being of
adolescents on the basis of gender and type of family.
There was no association found between Home Environment and General
well-being in case of boys and girls.
The findings of study are likely to be of immense importance to Scholars,
teachers, psychologists, counselors, parents and others to understand the significance
of Home Environment and General well-being for adolescents.
