Abstract
A field experiment entitled "Effect of mycorrhiza and vermicompost on
plant growth and development during pre-bearing stage of mandarin (Citrus
reticulata Blanco) cv. 'Nagpur' was conducted at the fruit research farm, Department
of Fruit science, College of Horticulture and Forestry, Jhalawar during February to
July 2008. The experiment consisted of 16 treatment combinations having four levels
of each mycorrhiza and vermicompost and it was laid out in factorial randomized
block design with three replications.
Among different doses of mycorrhiza, highest dose i.e. @ 30 g/plant was
found significantly superior over lower doses and control with respect to percent
increase in root stock girth, scion girth, plant height, plant spread (E-W and N-S),
canopy volume and number of primary branches. It has also given better result in
improving the water holding capacity and N, P, K (%) contents of leaf. Further, it was
also found superior with relation to N, P contents in soil, but was found at par with M2
in leaf area, relative water content, electrical conductivity, organic carbon and K
content in soil.
Likewise, out of different doses of vermicompost, V3 treatment i.e. @ 6
kg/plant also exhibited significant effect over control in respect to increase in root
stock girth, scion girth, plant height, plant spread (E-W and N-S), canopy volume,
number of primary branches and water holding capacity but it was found at par with
V2 in leaf area, relative water content, leaf NPK (%) and soil NPK (kg/ha) content,
organic carbon and electrical conductivity.
In case of interaction effect of mycorrhiza and vermicompost, the application
of M3V3 treatment i.e. mycorrhiza @ 30 g/plant + vermicompost @ 6 kg/plant was
found best with regards to root stock, scion girth, plant height, plant spread (E-W and
N-S), canopy volume, leaf NPK (%) content, water holding capacity, organic carbon
and N,P content of soil over all other treatments, but it was found at par with M3V2,
M3V1, M3V0, M2V2 in root stock girth and M3V2 in scion girth, plant height, leaf and
soil K content, and electrical conductivity.
