Abstract
The present study is an exploratory attempt to assess the vocational interest of high and low creative adolescent their parental support and aspirations. A representative sample of 120 boys (60 high scorer on creativity and 60 low scorer on creativity) and 120 girls (60 high scorer on creativity and 60 low scorer on creativity) in the age range of 14-18 years, belonging to middle income family were randomly selected from ten CBSE governed schools and subsequently their parents were also selected for the study. Four major tools were used for data collection i.e. Verbal test of creativity, Comprehensive interest schedule, Parental support scale and parental aspiration checklist. The data collected was categorized and coded in accordance with the objectives of the study. The major findings can be patterned as follows: 1.Both high creative boys and girls had more focused vocational interest as compared to their low counterparts. They were more expressive and self actualized, 2. Parents of both high creative boys and girls were more supportive as they scored high on all the three dimensions of parental support scale i.e. interest, behaviour and recourse provision. Parents of low creative boys and girls scored low on interest and behaviour dimension of parental support scale, regarding resource provision they were found to be at par with the parents of high creative boys and girls. The results reveal that high supportive interaction facilitates whereas non supportive interaction inhibits the development of creative behaviour among adolescents, 3. Parents of high creative boys and girls preferred interest of children as most important factor in selection of vocational stream whereas parents of low creative boys and girls preferred future prospects as most important factor. Parents of both high and low creative boys and girls preferred technical education for their children and good remuneration in vocation for their children. Parents of high creative boys and girls aspired technical and administrative occupations for their adolescents whereas parents of low creative boys and girls aspired computational and medical occupation for their adolescents 4. The results further revealed that Creativity was significantly related to vocational interest of boys and girls and parental support. 5.The case study data revealed that parental support during the stressful period predicts positive creative behaviour. Positive self image is essential for fostering creativity, 6. Based on the qualitative and quantitative data the investigator has suggested guidelines which will help the parents for enhancing creativity among adolescents
