Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Combining Ability and Stability Analysis for High Temperature Tolerance and Yield Contributing Characters in Bread Wheat (Triticum aestivum L. em. Thell)” was conducted at Experimental Farm of Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur during rabi, 2001-2002. F1’s were generated by mating 12 lines with 4 testers in L x T fashion during rabi 2000-01. The 64 entries including 4 testers, 12 lines including checks and 48 F1’s were evaluated in randomized block design with two replications. Observations were recorded on fourteen morphological characters viz., days to 50% flowering, days to 75% maturity, duration from anthesis to maturity, plant height, number of tillers per plant, number of productive tillers per plant, spike length, spike weight, number of spikelets per spike, number of grains per spike, biological yield per plant, harvest index, and grain yield per plant and seven heat tolerant characters viz., canopy temperature, proline content, pollen viability, heat injury, stomatal frequency (upper & lower), chlorophyll content(‘a’, ‘b’ and total) and chlorophyll stability index. The data so obtained were subjected to analysis of variance, estimation of heterosis over mid-parent, better parent and best parent (check), combining ability and stability analysis.
