Abstract
An experimental investigation was carried out to study effect of nitrogen and spacing levels on growth and yield of Kasuri methi (Trigonella cornicilata L.) var. Pusa Kasuri under field condition during November 2011 to January 2012 at Kittur Rani Channamma College of Horticulture, Arabhavi, University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot. The field experiment consisted of four nitrogen viz., N1- 20 kg, N2- 40 kg, N3- 60 kg and N4- 80 kg N/ha and four spacing levels viz., S1- 20 x 10 cm, S2- 20 x 20 cm , S3- 30 x 10 cm and S4- 30 x 20 cm. It was laid out in RBD with factorial concept in three replications. Growth parameters, physiological parameters, fresh and dry herb yield per plant(63.36 and 12.55 g), nitrogen content in plant, nitrogen uptake and available nitrogen in soil after harvest were significantly higher with the application of 80 kg N per hectare (N4), while the spacing level 30 x 20 cm (S4) recorded higher growth parameters, leaf area, chlorophyll content, AGR, fresh and dry yield per plant (60.36 and 12.04 g), nitrogen content in plants and available nitrogen in soil, whereas the plant spaced at 20 x 10 cm (S1) recorded maximum CGR, LAI, fresh and dry yield per plot and per hectare (9.36 and 1.88 kg, 28.88 and 5.80 t) and nitrogen uptake. The interaction effects of 80 kg N per hectare with 30 x 20 cm (N4S4) recorded maximum growth parameters, leaf area, chlorophyll content, AGR, fresh and dry yield per plant (66.10 and 12.80 g), nitrogen content in plants and available nitrogen in soil, while the, combination of 80 kg N per hectare with 20 x 10 cm (N4S1) recorded maximum CGR, LAI, fresh and dry yield per plot and per hectare (9.91 and 2.01 kg and 30.60 and 6.19 t), nitrogen uptake and B:C ratio.
