Abstract
A field experiment entitled “Effect of plant growth regulators on growth, seed yield and seed quality of pea (Pisum sativum l.) var., Phule Priya” was carried out at AICRP on Vegetable crops, Department of Horticulture, M.P.K.V., Rahuri during Rabi 2010-11. The objectives of investigation were to find out the effect of plant growth regulators on growth, seed yield and seed quality characters as influenced by different treatments of plant growth regulators viz., GA3 and Cycocel on pea crop. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) replicated thrice with ten treatments along with control. The experiment comprised of GA3 soaking treatments (100 and 200 ppm), Cycocel as spray (250 ppm and 500 ppm), combination of GA3 and Cycocel and water soaking treatments. The results clearly indicated that, application of plant growth regulators significantly increased growth and yield contributing characters. The observations on different plant characters such as plant height, number of primary branches, number of internodes, leaf area per plant (dm2), length and breadth of pods (cm), number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, weight of pods per plant and 100 pods weight (g), weight of seeds per plant and 100 seeds weight (g), seed yield per plot (kg) and per hectare (q), germination percentage, vigour index and disease incidence were recorded at appropriate stages. The studies revealed significant differences in the plant height, number of branches, number of internodes, leaf area (dm2), length and breadth of pods (cm), number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, weight of pods per plant and 100 pods weight (g), weight of seeds per plant and 100 seeds weight (g), seed yield per plot (kg) and per hectare (q) due to application of plant growth regulators over the control among all the treatments. The GA3 treatments significantly increased all vegetative characters. The highest yield was recorded with application of GA3 + CCC in combination (GA3 200 + CCC 250 ppm). The most important yield attributes namely number and weight of pods and number of seeds per pod was favorably influenced by plant growth regulators.
