Abstract
A field experiment entitled “Bio-efficacy of Clethodim, Imazethapyr alone and their Tank Mixtures with Pendimethalin on Weed Dynamics and Productivity of Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) Varieties” was conducted during kharif seasons of 2006 and 2007 at Instructional Farm (Agronomy), Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur. The experiment consisted of 24 treatment combinations comprising of six herbicidal treatments i.e.(Pendimethalin at 1000 g ha-1, PE, Imazethapyr at 100 g ha-1, POE, Clethodim at 200 g ha-1, POE, Imazethapyr + Pendimethalin at 25 + 750 g ha-1, POE, Clethodim + Pendimethalin at 50 + 750 g ha-1, POE and Weedy check) and four varieties (JS-335, Pratap Soya-1, JS-9305 and PK-1024). The experiment was conducted in factorial randomized block design with three replications. All weed control treatments reduced weed density, dry matter and nutrient depletion by weeds 45 DAS and at harvest during both the years. Tank mix application of clethodim + pendimethalin and imazethapyr + pendimethalin were found at par to each other and both were significantly superior in reducing weed density, dry matter of grassy as well as broadleaf weeds 45 DAS and at harvest over rest of the treatments. Clethodim + pendimethalin was significantly superior in reducing nitrogen and phosphorus depletion by grassy and broadleaf weeds at harvest. The highest weed control efficiency of 94.30 per cent at 60 DAS was recorded with clethodim + pendimethalin which was closely followed by imazethapyr + pendimethalin (93.98 percent). All weed control treatments significantly enhanced seed, straw and biological yield of soybean over weedy check. Clethodim + pendimethalin gave maximum values of branches plant-1, nodules plant-1, pods plant-1 and 1000-seed weight followed by imazethapyr + pendimethalin. Consequently, tank mixture application of clethodim + pendimethalin produced significantly higher seed (2148.30 kg ha-1), straw (3315.54 kg ha-1) and biological (5463.85 kg ha-1) yields compared to other treatments except imazethapyr + pendimethalin. The enhancement in seed yield due to tank mix application of clethodim + pendimethalin were 14.08, 16.75, 33.95 and 130.07 per cent compared to clethodim, imazethapyr, pendimethalin and weedy check, respectively. All the herbicides significantly enhanced the nitrogen and phosphorus uptake by soybean seed as well as straw over weedy check. Percent protein and oil content was enhanced by all herbicidal treatments. Clethodim + pendimethalin produced significantly maximum protein (889.18 kg ha-1) and oil (431.36 kg ha-1) yield compared to weedy check. The herbicide application in soybean did not influence germination, plant height and biomass of wheat, mustard and gram. Varieties did not affect the weed density, dry matter and nutrient depletion by weed significantly. Variety JS-335 recorded maximum dry matter accumulation 40 and 60 DAS, LAI 40 and 60 DAS, branches plant-1, pods plant-1, 1000-seed weight, seed (1867.02 kg ha-1), straw (2799.71 kg ha-1) and biological (4666.72 kg ha-1) yields closely followed by Pratap Soya-1. Nitrogen and phosphorus uptake by seed, straw and total uptake by crop, protein and oil yield also recorded maximum by variety JS-335. Among the weed control, maximum net returns (Rs. 25367 ha-1) and B C ratio (2.87) were recorded under the tank mix application of clethodim + pendimethalin (50 + 750 g ha-1) followed by imazethapyr + pendimethalin . Among varieties, highest net returns (Rs. 20830 ha-1) and B C ratio (2.34) were realized under JS-335.
