Abstract
Ashwagandha [Withania somnifera (L.) Dun.] is an important medicinal plant of the world as well as India. Its use in ayurvedic and unani extends back over 3000 to 4000 years. Any successful crop improvement programme for varietal improvement depends mainly on selection of the accessions/parents having high genetic variability so that the desirable characters combination may be selected for higher yield. Thus, the genetic variability in breeding for high yielding varieties has immense importance
