Abstract
The adsorption desorption of pendimethalin, alachlor and fluchloralin were studied on Otur and Rastapur soil series of Vertisol and Pargaon and Sibneri soil series of Entisol in laboratory during 2003-04. The surface soil samples (0-15 cm) from two soil series of each soil order were collected from Central Campus Farm, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri. The soil series of Vertisol showed the highest adsorption of pendimethalin (93.67 %), fluchloralin (89.15 %) and alachlor (88.05 %). The adsorption isotherms were of S type in all the soil series. The soil series of Vertisol did not show variability in adsorption isotherm. The soil series of Entisol showed lower quantity and intensity factors and showed the higher desorption of pendimethalin (21.46 %), fluchloralin (24.97 %) and alachlor (24.77 %). The soil pH, organic carbon, cation exchange capacity (CEC) and clay content showed significant positive correlation with adsorption of pendimethalin, fluchloralin and alachlor and negative correlation with per cent desorption. Soil pH, EC, organic carbon, clay content and cation exchange capacity showed positive significant correlation with adsorption and Freundlich constant.
