Abstract
The present investigation entitled "Maximization of seed yield and it's quality in Jute (Corchorus spp) varieties by chemical regulation of growth", was undertaken at Department of Botany, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri An experiment was laid out in a split plot design for comparison of ethrel treatments, at two concentrations with control and FRBD for comparison of various characters from laboratory study in three replications. An observations on different plant characters such as days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, plant height, number of primary branches per plant, number of secondary branches per plant, number of pods per plant, pod length or pod girth, number of seeds per pod, seed yield per plant, seed yield per hectare, 1000 seed wt. germination percentage, seed recovery percentage, seedling vigour index and seedling dry matter were recorded. The study revealed significant differences in almost all characters studied except pod length, capsule girth, number of seeds per pod / capsule, germination percentage and seed recovery. Ethrel significantly influenced most of the growth and flowering characters, Ethrel at 0.5 L. a.i. / 1000 V water at 15 days after sowing gives early initiation of flowers, early maturity, reduced plant height, maximum number of primary and secondary branches per plant and increased number of pods, capsules per plant. This resulted in increased seed yield per plant and per hectare. he seed quality characters such as highest thousand seed weight, high seedling vigour index and maximum seedling dry matter was obtained by Ethrel at 0.5 1^ a.i. / 1000 \^. water at 30 days after sowing. Amongst the different treatment studied, Ethrel treatment were better than manual topping and water spray treatments. It can be concluded that the seed yield and quality of jute was increased by application of growth retardants.
