Abstract
A field experiment was conducted at Regional Horticultura l Research Station, ACHF, Navsari Agricultural Universit y, Navsari (Gujarat) during kharif season of 2013-14 for evaluating the effect of different seed treatment by PGR‟s on germination, growth, yield and quality of okra. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications an d 11 treatments. The treatments comprises of three level of GA 3 (T 1 : GA 3 @ 10 ppm, T 2 : GA 3 @ 20 ppm and T 3 : GA 3 @ 30 ppm), three level of IAA (T 4 : NAA @ 10 pp m, T 5 : NAA @ 20 ppm and T 6 : NAA @ 30 ppm), three level of IAA (T 7 : IAA @ 75 ppm, T 8 : IAA @ 100 ppm and T 9 : IAA @ 125 pp m) and T 1 0 water soaking, T 1 1 as contro l (without seed treatment). The treatments were given by overnight soaking with PGR‟s and distilled water. Different seed treatments had non - significant effects on days to germination. The germination characteristics viz., germinatio n per cent at 5, 7 and 10 DAS (80.00, 86.54 and 96.24 %) and survival per cent (98.16 %) were recorded highest in the treatment T 2 (GA 3 @ 20 ppm). Seed treatments by different PGR‟s had significant effect o n the growth characters. The growth attributes such as number o f primary branches at 30, 60 and 90 DAS (3.03, 3.27 and 3.64) and early flowering (46 days) was noted the maximum under treatment T 2 (GA 3 @ 20 pp m), while, on other hand growth characters viz., plant height (50.90, 160.36 and 203.51 cm), number of nodes per plant (7.43, 13.64 and 16.21) and internodal length (10.12, 11.73 and 12.14 c m) at 30, 60 and 90 DAS were found to be beneficia l with respect to T 3 (GA 3 @ 30 ppm). The lowest growth characters found in T 1 1 (control) Yield and yield attributes were significantly affected b y different seed treatments. Treatment T 2 (GA 3 @ 20 ppm) has resulted in the higher values of yield attributes viz., pod lengt h (15.22 c m), number of pods per plant (24.75), pod weigh t (15.63 g), pod yield kg per plant (0.38 kg) and pod yield kg per hectare (21164 kg). Remarkable improve ment in the quality parameters viz., fiber % (9.01 %), chlorophyll content (1.84 mg/g.) and ascorbic acid (11.13 mg/100g) were observed in the treatment T 2 (GA 3 @ 20 ppm). On the basis of experiment as well as econo mic point o f view, the maximum net return with BCR value of 2.09: 1 was achieved under the treat ment T 2 (GA 3 @ 20 pp m) followed by T 5 (NAA @ 20 ppm) BCR value of 1.88: 1.
