Abstract
Floral biology of mango cultivar Alphonso and Kesar was studied under semi-arid conditions of ahuri. The percentage of perfect flowers was the higheston north side and the lowest on east side of tree. Thepercentage of Perfect flowers was more in late flush followedby mid flush and least in the early flush. The average percentage of perfect flowers in these cultivars was 9.83 and 10.17 respectively. The major anthesis took place between 6 a. m. to 10 a. m. in both the cultivars under study,whereas major anther dehiscence was recorded between 11 a. m.to 12 noon. The maximum stigma receptivity was observed onthe day of anthesis and the lowest on the third day of anthesis. The Kesar produced yn*ximA<r, viable pollen <88.06 per cent) than that of Alphonso <84.72 per cent), however f>©u«n °* both the cultivars failed to germinate artificially on sucrose. Both the cultivars are not self - incompatible, however cross pollination increased the -fruit set and –fruit retention. Overall performance of cultivar Kesar was observed to be better than Alphonso.
