Women working in Indian banking sector increasing phenomenally in the recent
past due to increasing education level and various reasons. The present study made
attempt to analyse the job satisfaction of women employees in banking sector. The data
was collected through pre-tested questionnaire from 90 respondents among which 60
respondents were from public sector banks and 30 respondents were from private sector
banks. The data was analysed using factor analysis and Garrett’s ranking technique etc.
In public banks, 35 per cent of women employees satisfied with respect to pay and
promotion. In case of private banks, 36.66 per cent of the employees satisfied with degree
of responsibility. Job security and organizational polices were the major factors
influencing job satisfaction in public banks whereas in case of private banks pay,
promotion and employee empowerment were the major factors increasing for employees
satisfaction. In public banks employees were satisfied with respect to working condition,
job security and availability of fringe benefits as compared to private banks and less
satisfied with degree of skill utilization, training and career opportunities. Difficult to
balance work and household demand was the major problem faced by women employees
in public banks and workload was the major problem faced by women employees in
private banks. It is suggested to provide adequate opportunity to learn new skills through
training and development programmes in public sector banks. In private sector banks,
need to improve job security to increase the level of satisfaction and to influence their job
performance.
