STUDIES ON PERFORMANCE OF GLADIOLI VARIETIES
(Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola, Maharashtra., 2002-06-24) RATHOD, KISHOR GOKUL; Belorkar, Shri PV
The present investigation was carried out to study the influence of different varieties of gladiolus in respect of growth , flowering and yield under Nag pur condition and to find out suitable variety required by the grower and consumer. The experiment was carried out under Randomized Block Design with five varieties. Treatments were repeated four times. Varieties of gladiolus were as follows- 1. Jessica 2. Jester 3. NovaLux 4. OrangeQueen 5. Sancerre. Findings of the experimental revealed that amongst all the varieties Novalux was found significantly superior in respect of most of the characters desired by the growers and consumers. Novalux attributed significant results in respect of minimum average days required for sprouting of corms, maximum average length and area of leaf, minimum average days required for emergence of spike, maximum average length of spike and rachis, maximum average number of florets per spike and maximum average diameter of floret. Orange Queen and Sancerre however in general were appeared good in respect of production of maximum average number of spikes and rachis, maximum average yields of spike per ha. and maximum average yield of corms and corrnels per hectare. Jessica and Jester recorded maximum average days for sprouting of corms, maximum average days for emergence of spike and rachis, minimum average number and weight of corms and cormels per hectare. The present results are suggestive and need further confirmation.
