    A study on reading habits, preference pattern and satisfaction level of kannada farm magazines readers

    The study was undertaken in sixteen selected districts of Karnataka state based on availability of the strength of the farm magazines readers. The farm magazines selected for the study were Krishimunnade, Sirisambruddhi and Krishimitra. A sample size of 60 Kannada farm magazines readers from each of the magazines were selected, thus constituting a total sample of 180 Kannada farm magazines readers for the study. A large majority of the respondents possessed radio sets, televisions, subscribe to news papers, and farm magazines. Majority of the respondents belongs to medium cosmopoliteness, medium progressiveness, medium economic motivation and medium risk orientation categories. Majority of the respondents (57.22%) belongs to medium reading habits category of farm magazines, 62.78 per cent of the respondents read the complete information published in the farm magazines. Majority of the respondents preferred 14 font size letters, 5 to 7 sentences per paragraphs, two tables per article, illustrations in the farm of photos, caption of the article in suggestive farm, and content should appear on first inner page. About 60.00 per cent of the respondents were satisfied with name of the magazines, attractiveness, quality and appropriateness of the illustrations, timeliness, clarity and accuracy of the message, size of the letters used in the magazines and readability of the farm magazines. It was found by the correlation analysis that the variables such as education, annual income, social participation, mass media utilization, extension contact, cosmopoliteness, progressiveness, economic motivation and risk orientation had significant relationship with the variables reading habits and satisfaction level of respondents. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the variables education and risk orientation exhibited positive significant relationship with reading habits and satisfaction level of the farm magazines readers. Majority of the respondents encountered the problem of irregular distribution, lack of comprehensive information and non availability of farm magazines in rural areas. Suggested to use local language, publish information on seasonal basis, publish important articles on the prescribed page and publish information on high-tech agriculture.
