    Creativity and Intellectual abilities of adolescents

    Creativity is the ability to bring something new in existence, which is distinguished by novelty, originality and appropriateness. Creative children are assets to the society. Development and progress in various fields depends on the creativity. Intellectual abilities are the capacities to acquire knowledge and utilize it. Intellectual ability is the mental ability which helps the individual to think about minute, complex and abstract matters, to adjust with changing situations by solving problems as quickly as possible. Creativity is closely related with intellectual abilities of adolescents. The study examines the influence of intellectual abilities, home environment and peer relationship on creativity of adolescents. The study was conducted in Rural area of Rewari and Hisar districts of Haryana state on 240 adolescents comprising 120 from Rewari and 120 from Hisar district. The sample represented equal number of boys and girls ranging in 14-16 years of age group. Creativity level was assessed by using divergent production abilities test by K.N Sharma. Intellectual abilities were assessed by using Binet intelligence scale. The results elucidates that all the sub-aspects of creativity were significantly and positively correlated with intellectual abilities of adolescents. Increase in the intellectual abilities of adolescents results in increase in the level of creativity among adolescents or vice-versa. Rewari students were more creative and possess better intellectual abilities as compared to Hisar students. The study further unveils that home environment was significantly associated with creativity of adolescents concluding that home environment of the adolescents highly influence their creativity level. Better was the home environment better was the creativity of the adolescents. Study also highlighted that peer relationship does not affect creativity of the adolescents.
