    EFFECT OF MORINGA (MORINGA OLEIFERA) LEAF MEAL (DRUM STICK) AND OIL ON PERFORMANCE OF BROILER CHICKEN 2315

    Key words: Chicken, Performance, Moringa leaf meal, Moringa oil The present study was carried out with the objective of investigating the effect of dietary supplementation of moringa (Moringa oleifera) leaf meal (drum stick) and oil on performance of broiler chickens. Total 200 numbers of Cobb-400 strain broiler chicks were randomly divided in four groups as T1 (Control), T2, T3 and T4. Birds in T1 group were fed on basal diet without any supplement and three treatment groups were fed with basal diet supplemented with moringa (Moringa oleifera) leaf meal @ 0.15 % (w/w) and moringa (Moringa oleifera) oil @ 0.1% (v/w) and moringa (Moringa oleifera) leaf meal @ 0.075 %(w/w) + Moringa oil @ 0.05%(v/w) in T2, T3 and T4 group respectively for the period of 35 days. Statistical analysis revealed that overall feed intake (g) does not vary significantly (P>0.05) among the treatment groups when compared to control (T1) group. It was also non significant (P>0.05) among different treatments groups. Final body weights (g) of birds in T4 group showed significant (P<0.05) increase in final body weight as compare to T1, T2, T3, Which was statistical at par. Birds of group T4, attended highest body weight which was fed with combination of MOLM and MOSO, followed by control group (T1), MOLM group (T2) and MOSO group (T3). Supplementation of Moringa oleifera leaf meal and oil had no significant effect on feed conversion ratio of broiler birds. Result of statical analysis revealed non significant (P>0.05) but beneficial effect in T4 group of birds followed by T2 group as compared to control group. While the birds of T3 group showed non significant higher FCR among all treatment groups. Values obtained for carcass characteristics revealed non- significant effect of Moringa oleifera leaf meal, Moringa oleifera seed oil and it's combination on dressing percent and organ weights (g) except in gizzard and liver without any definite pattern. The average values of different sensory evaluation parameters like appearance, aroma, color, flavor, tenderness, juiciness and overall acceptability also showed non- significant difference among different experimental groups. Similarly, Values for different haemato-biochemical parameters like hemoglobin (Hb), packed cell volume (PCV), total erythrocyte count (TEC), alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate amino transferase (AST) were also found non-significant among different experimental groups except for total leucocyte count (TLC). TLC was significantly (P <0.05) higher in control group as compared to other treatment group. Evaluation of economy of feeding for different treatments revealed that highest return over feed cost was found in T4 group of birds followed by T2, T1 and T3 groups which had lowest Return over feed cost. So, result of present study indicated positive response on combination of Moringa oleifera leaf meal and Moringa oleifera seed oil when used in the diet of broilers.
