(Institute of Agri Business Management Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University, 2022) Ponsakthivel P; Satyveer Singh Meena
Agriculture is a significant part of the Indian economy, accounting for about 19.9 per cent of total GDP and provides employment opportunity for more than 60 per cent of the population. India is one of the leading producers of agricultural products like paddy, wheat, pulses, groundnuts, rapeseeds, fruits, vegetables, sugarcane, tea, jute, cotton, tobacco leaves etc. Before reaching the market, each commodity has to go through a series of processes such as harvesting, threshing, winnowing, bagging, transportation, storage, processing, and exchange, where producers incur production and processing losses and price risk. The present study was carried out to examine existing public and private agri warehouses in Rajnandgaon District of Chhattisgarh and to study the awareness level among the farmers regarding the agri warehouse facilities and their utilization pattern and analyse the constraints faced by stakeholders. Convenient sampling technique was employed to select 60 respondent farmers and using judgmental sampling technique 10 traders and 10 warehouse supervisors were selected for the study based on warehouse location.

Pulses provide food and nutritional security and ensuring agro- ecological sustainability to the country‟s ever-growing population. It is known as “poor man’s meat” as they serve as the cheapest and most concentrated source of protein and amino acids for vegetarians and weaker sections of society. Likewise, it prevents and helps to manage chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes and coronary conditions. It helps in nitrogen cycling with their ability to fix the atmospheric nitrogen in the soil, thus improving soil health (Anonymous, 2017-18 a ). The availability of pulses declined fast from 60.7 gram/day/capita in 1951 to 47.9 gram/day/capita as of 2020 against the minimum requirement of 70 gram/day/capita as recommended by ICMR (Anonymous, 2020-21). Chickpea (Cicer arietinum Linn) belongs to the family Leguminosae (Fabaceae) and sub-family Papilionaceae. It is also known as Bengal Gram, Gram, Garbanzo Bean and Chana in Hindi. It is cultivated in the rabi season (October-February). Besides, it is mainly consumed as Dal (split cotyledon) and Chole. Chickpea is a good source of protein (18- 22%), carbohydrate (61-62%), fat (4.5%), fiber (22-23%), calcium (280 mg/100g), iron (12.3 mg/100g), phosphorus (301 mg/100g) and calorific value (368-396 Kcal/100g) (Anonymous, 2018). It is a major pulse in India, contributing about 36% of the area and 49% of total pulse production (Anonymous, 2020 a ).
