    Benefits of women development programmes availed by rural women

    The present study was conducted in Parbhani District with a view to know the infom1ation about benefit s of women development programmes availed by rural women. The specifi c obj ectives of the study were to study the profile of rural women, to study the knowledge level of rural women about different women development programmes, to study the benefits avai led by ru ral women from di fferent women development programmes, to study the relationship of profil e o f rural women with knowledge and bene fits avai led from different women development programmes and to stud y the problems faced by rural women in avail ing benefits from different women deve lopment programmes. The Gangakhed, Manva t, Parbhani and Selu tahasi ls of Parbhani district were selected randomly for the s tud y. The Two vill ages from each ta luka were selected purpos ively. Sample of 120 respond ents was elected by lottery method from these villages and informati on pertain ing to objectives was collected with the help of in terview schedu le prepared. The simple percentage was worked out to describe the profi le of rural women. From the present findings, it was observed that the majority of the mral women had found in young age, illiterate, had medium economic empowe1ment belonged to hi gher caste, married, agricu lture + labouring occupation, medium s ize of fa mil y, medium social pa11i cipation, medium annual income, medium sources of infonnati on, medium knowledge about diffe rent women development prgrammes and deri ved medium benefits under different women development programmes. According to relati onal analys is, it was fo und that the education, women empowerment, social pa11icipation and sources or information establish positive and signilicant relationship wi th knowledge. As regard the relatiOnship of profile of respondents with benefits, it was found that age, women empowerment, marital status, social participation establishes positive and significant relationship with extent of benefits availed. The constraints encountered by the rural women in availing benefits form different women development programmes can be summarized as lack of knowledge about various women development programmes, requires more time for sanctioning, constant follow up was required, delay in disbursement of benefits, harassment by the official, lack of knowledge about documentary requirement, collection of documents was time consuming, lack of knowledge about filling the application etc.

    Knowledge of farm women about recommended crop production technology

    Tlie present study was conducted in Parbhani and Hingoli district with view to know the knowledge of farm women about recommended crop production technology. The specific objectives of study were to study the profile of • farm women, to study the ~xtent of knowledge of fann women about crop production, to study relationship of profile of farmers with knowledge of farm women and to study the suggestion given by farm women for strengthing the knowledge of farm women. The Puma and Parbhan tahsil of Parbhani district and Aundha and Basmat tahsil of Hingoli district were selected randomly of the study. Sample of 120 respondents were selected randomly from these eight villages and information pertaining to objective was collected with the help of interyiew schedule prepared the simple percentage was worked out to describe profile of farm women. From the present findings, it is observed that majority of respondents had found medium age, educated upto primary level, lower caste, agriculture as a main occupation, small land holding, medium farm experience, medium annual income, nuclear type of family, medium size of family medium level of social participation and medium level of use of mass media farm women had medium level of knowledge about recommended crop production of kharifjawar, tur and soybean. According to relational analysis, it was found that the attributes of farm women namely,. education, occupation, land holding, farm experience, annual income, type of family size of family, social participation and use of mass media established positive and significant relationship witlr knowledge. The suggestions given by the farm women for strengthen the knowledge of farm women were to arrange exhibition, to arrange training prograntme, to conduct method and result demonstrations to arrange field visits and field trips and to appoint women extension worker for giving information to them.

    Knowledge of panchayat raj members about agricultural development schemes

    The present study was conducted in Parbhani district of Maharashtra state with a view to know the information about knowledge of Panchayat raj members about Agricultural Development Schemes. The specific objectives of the study were to study the profile of members of Panchayat Raj, to study the knowledge level of the members of the Panchayat Raj about Agricultural Development Schemes, to study the participation of members of Panchayat Raj in Agricultural Development Schemes, to study the relationship of profile of members of Panchayat Raj with their knowledge of Agricultural Development Schemes. The Parbhani and Jintur Panchayat Samities from Parbhani district were selected randomly. And three Gram Panchayats were selected from each Panchayat Samiti. 60 Gram Panchayat members, 30 Panchayat Samiti members and 15 Zilla Parishad members were selected. Thus total 105 respondents were selected and information pertaining to objectives was collected with the help of interview schedule prepared. The simple percentage was worked out to describe the profile of Panchayat Raj members. From the present findings, it IS observed that, majority of Grampanchayat and Panchayat Samiti members were from middle age group, having education upto middle school level, belongs to open category, with low annual income, agriculture as their main occupation, with medium social participation, medium mass media exposure, medium cosmopoliteness category, medium knowledge level, more knowledge of Minor irrigation scheme and with medium participation in agricultural development schemes. However, in case of Zilla Parishad members, it was found that, majority of the members were from middle age group, having education upto higher secondary level, belongs to open category, with high annual income, agriculture as their occupation, with medium social participation, medium mass media exposure, medium cosmopoliteness, equal members had medium and high level knowledge, had more knowledge of Minor irrigation scheme and National Agricultural Insurance Scheme and with medium participation m agricultural development schemes. According to relation analysis, it was found that the attributes of Panchayat members namely education, annual income, occupation, social participation, mass media exposure and cosmopoliteness establish positive and highly significant relationship with knowledge of respondents about Agricultural Development Schemes. While age of respondents was negatively significant with their knowledge of Agricultural Development Schemes.

    Aspiration of agriculture school students

    The present study was conducted in Parbhani and Hingoli District of Marathwada region of Marashtra state in the year of 2008 with specific objective to study the aspiration of the Agriculture school students, for the study four agriculture schools were selected, from these four school 120 students respondents were selected, (30 from each school, randomly. One short care study research design with ex-post facto approach was used for research study. The majority 75.00 per cent of the respondents wish complete higher studies, as regarding to the job aspiration 75.67 per cent of the respondents aspired to squared job in Panchayat Raj institution, majority of the respondents (81.67%) aspired to start business on small scale, 76.67 per cent of the respondents aspired to start nursery, 3 3.34 per cent of the respondents aspired to earn 1 0000 to 20000 per month. Majority of the respondents were having medium level of aspiration followed by high level. Relationship between personal and . . soc I o-econom1 c characteristics of the students and their aspiration. It is observed that the variables such as family education status, annual income, academic performance and type of family were positive and significantly related with the overall aspiration level of the students. The variables like caste, family size, family background, parents occupation, land holding and social participation could not show any relationship with the aspiration of the students. Suggestions of the students for fulfilling their aspirations were 95.00 per cent of the respondents suggested to provide computer facility , 85.00 per cent of the respondents suggested to provide facility for counseling regarding job availabilities, 81.61 per cent of the respondents suggested to give equal status to diploma as HSC and marks available chances for higher education, 62.50 per cent of the respondents suggested to make some technical changes in present syllabus. Suggestions of the students for fulfilling their aspirations were 95.00 per cent of the respondents suggested to provide computer facility, 85.00 per cent of the respondents suggested to provide facility for counseling regarding job availabilities, 81.61 per cent of the respondents suggested to give equal status to diploma as HSC and marks available chances for higher education, 62.50 per cent of the respondents suggested to make some technical changes in present syllabus.

    Content analysis of farm information published in ekmat daily

    The present study regarding location, space covered by the farm information and identification of different types, forms of presentation of farm information and analysis of the contents of the farm information published in Marathi newspaper 'Ekmat' daily from Latur District of Maharashtra. Fifty two issues of 'Ekmat' daily published from 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2008 were randomly selected and studied with the help of specially designed proforma for collection and analysis of the contents of 'Ekmat' daily. The data were presented in the form of percentage and frequencies. The results of the present investigation are as follows. The farm information occupied very small space (2.97 per cent) as compare to non-farm information (68.58 per cent). Agricultural crops, farm operations and other topics topped in terms of frequency (34.78 per cent) of total farm information which includes crops (14.49 per cent), irrigation (4.83 per cent), plant protection (5.79), manuring (4.34 per cent ), Harvesting and post harvest technology (2.89 per cent), marketing and availability of inputs (1.93 per cent). Tapman, Bajarbhav and farm articles were published as regular agricultural features. News story (57.48 per cent) was the common form of presenting farm information. News story (38.04 per cent) occupied the highest space followed by the regular agricultural features (34.68 per cent). Most of the farm information published on right side (54.78 per cent) of the middle pages of news paper. Cross line (44.92 per cent) and pyramid (13.52) types of heading were common. Mostly farm information had heading, body and lead but rarely illustration. Length of the farm information was up to 200 words. Most of the (69.56 per cent) farm information had more than six per cent difficult words, 1 to 6 per cent technical words (54.6 per cent), majority (69.56 per cent) of agricultural news had up to 20 sentences. About 30.46 per cent of the farm information had less than 50 per cent simple sentences. Large majority (75.82 per cent) of agricultural news had up to 50 per cent compound sentences and 100 per cent complex sentences. Most (99.04 per cent) of the farm information had one sentence in the heading, while 1 to 10 sentences in the body (57.48 per cent).

    Knowledge and adoption of recommended package of practices by okra growers

    The present study was conducted with specific objective to study the "Knowledge and Adoption of recommended package of practices by Okra growers". For the study two talukas viz. Parbhani and Puma were selected purposively from Parbhani district and five villages from each taluka were selected purposively, from each village twelve okra growers were selected by n111 method. Ex. Post-Facto research design was used for the research study. Majority of the farmers were from medium farm experience, had education upto higher secondary level, medium land holding, medium annual income, medium level of market orientation, medium risk orientation, had medium social participation and medium extension contact. Majority of the respondents had knowledge about climatic conditions required for Okra cultivation, land requirement, sowing period, method of sowing. It was also observed that some of the respondents had less knowledge bout seed treatment and correct doses of fertilizers . Majority of respondents had fully adopted, method of irrigation, harvesting time and sowing pe;•:•)d while some of them had not adopted seed treatment practice. • Characteristics of respondents namely, farm expenence, education, annual mcome, market orientation, risk preference, social participation and extension contact had positive and ~ighly significant relati ~ mship with knowledge of package of practices of okra. Where as education, land holding, annual income, market orientation risk preference, Social participation and extension contact had positive and significant relationship with adoption. From regression analysis, it was seen that social participation and market orientation had sufficient contribution in effecting knowledge level of okra growers while farm experience, education and extension contact had sufficient contribution in affection adoption of okra growers. Major problems faced by the respondents m adoption of recommended package of practices of okra were failure of electric supply, lack of knowledge of preparation of correct proportion of insecticidal solution and correct doses of insecticides, pesticides and fertilizers.

    Content analysis of agrowon daily with special reference to agriculture information

    Agrowon is one of the popular newspaper amongst the farmers of Maharashtra. The Sakal publication have launched Agrowon, the first ever Daily in India devoted to agriculture on 19111 April, 2005 Agrowon would generate confidence among the farmers and facilitate them with information to go global. It was therefore felt necessary to study its content analysis with special reference to Agricultural information. The present investigation was conducted during the year 2008-09 with the specific objectives i.e. To analyse the agricultural information covered in Agrowon Daily, to study the use of illustrations and their types, size and placement in agricultural information, to study the sources for agricultural information. The issues of Agrowon Daily published in one year during 151 June, 2007 to 31 51 May, 2008 were considered for study. The one seventh issues making the size of sample about 52 newspapers were selected randomly for the study. The agricultural information occupied 59.09 per cent space of the newspaper. The horticultural information occupied 23 .95 per cent space in Agrowon Daily and non- agricultural information occupied 17.92 per cent space in Agrowon Daily. The Agricultural advertisement occupied 3.89 per cent. The Horticultural Advertisement occupied 1.85 per cent space and non-agricultural advertisement occupied 0.30 per cent space in Agrowon Daily. Among the crops husbandry information cereal crops information ranked first (32.84%) followed by cash crops (20.91 %), pulse crops (20.47%), oilseed crops (18.13%) and forage crops (7.65%) in terms of frequency. Among the horticultural crops fruit crops information ranked first (32.13%), followed by vegetable crops (31.44%), flower crops (15.35%), spices crops (12.62%) and aromatic and medicinal crops (8.46%) in terms of frequency. In illustration types, a photograph was the most commonly used illustration in crop husbandry and horticultural information. So there is scope to use other types like graph, cartoons, maps and drawings in crop husbandry and horticulture crops. Most of the agricultural and horticultural information was appeared on left upper left side and rarely on left middle. Among the colour of illustrations, more than 70.00 per cent photographs were in multicolour of horticultural and agricultural information. The sources for getting information, private personnel were on first position (62.54%). The without source information on second position (21.04%) followed by editorial (4 .98%), Govt. institute (1.73%) like Agriculture university, state agricultural department, etc. The space covered by Agricultural University and State Agricultural Department as source of information were less, so the Editorial Board of Agrowon is having scope to motivate the farm scientists from other SAUs for getting more farm information.
