A limited survey on the level of contamination of aflatoxin B1 in the compounded feed and individual feed ingredients was conducted in and around Namakkal area of Tamil Nadu. Out of 63 compounded feed and 43 feed ingredient samples analysed 42.86 and 32.56 per cent respectively, were contaminated with for AFB1 singly and in co-occurrence with other mycotoxins such ...
Experimentally, ochratoxicosis and coccidiosis were induced singly and in combination in 6 groups of broilers each consisting of 25 chicks. Ochratoxicosis was induced by feeding with dietary ochratoxin A (OA) at a concentration of 0.5 and 1 ppm tor 23 days. Coccidiosis was induced by inoculating 50,000 sporulated oocysts of E. tenella as 14th day.
Pathomorphological effects of citrinin (CTN) a nephrotoxic mycotoxin were studied in broiler chicks by feeding mycotoxin free feed to control (group A) and 300.0 ppm of CTN to group B. Grossly, severe enlargement of kidneys, atrophy of the bursa of Fabricius, pale and yellowish discolouration of the liver, pin point haemorrhages in heart were recorded. Histopatholo...
Out of the 80 dermatitis cases studied in dogs, 17 were demodicosis cases. The affected dogs belonged to two to six years of age group. Grossly, papules, pustules, nodules, alopecia, scaly, crusty, hyperpigmented and thickened skin were observed. Adults and immature stages were seen in skin scrapings. Neutrophils, lymphocytes and macrophages were seen in cytolo...
Pathological changes observed as early as week 2 in 30 ppm level clarified the toxic effects of endosulfan in broiler chicken at a lower dose itself. Lymphoid depletion observed in the spleen and bursa indicated the immunosuppressive effect by endosulfan. Further studies to elucidate the mechanisms of toxicity of endosulfan in broiler chicken are needed.
