A sulphate reducing bacterium was isolatcd from the rumen fluid contents of sheep. The isolate , ' was characterised and found to be an anaerobic non-spore forming, motile gram negative rod. lts biochemical characters agree in all respects with a genus Desulfovibrio. This bacterium reduced the sulphate present in the medium and produced black colonies.
