Abstract: The present investigation was carried out during the year 2007-08 in Dharamjaigarh block of Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh state. Ten SHGs were selected by using simple random sampling procedure, thus all members of SHGs were taken as respondent, total 105 respondents were considered for the study. The data were collected through personal interview and analyzed by using appropriate statistical methods like mean, percentage and correlation analysis etc. for the interpretation of the data. The findings of this study revealed that the majority of the respondents were found in old age group, illiterate, belonged to schedule tribe of caste group, medium family size with single family type, and had no membership in any organization, with medium record maintenance and had small group size. Majority of the respondents had reported high saving habit, marginal land holding and farming with service was adopted as their main occupation. Maximum number of the respondents had medium decision making and they took decision with all members of SHG jointly. Majority of the members of women SHGs had medium level of trust and had medium effect of trust. In case of economic motivation four sixth of the members of women SHGs had medium level of economic motivation for joining the SHGs. The study indicates that majority of members of women SHGs were in the medium use of information source, and had medium contact with credit agencies. The most of the members had low mass media exposure and had medium Cosmopoliteness. The overall performance of the SHG members was reported as a medium level of performance in their social, economical and technological performance. Correlation analysis reveals that the variables size of family, group size, land holding, family occupation, decision making, level of trust, economic motivation, and Cosmo politeness had non significant relationship with overall performance whereas Type of family and age were negatively and significantly correlated. Caste, record maintenance, source of information, contact with credit agencies, literacy level, size of family, saving effect of trust, mass media exposure were positively and significantly correlated with overall performance. As far as constraints face by the members of Self Help Group in entrepreneurial activities were concerned, maximum respondents experienced with various constraints like lack of co-operation among the members, lack of family support, lack of fund, lack of technical knowledge among the members, lack of contact with the technical persons, less education etc. Some of the major suggestions given by the members for increasing the performance in various entrepreneurial activities i.e. to increase increasing infra structure facilities provide proper guidance, to ensure availability of low cost machines and to provide availability of raw materials for products.
