Abstract: The present investigation on “Effect of acetamiprid on malathion induced toxicity with special reference to male reproductive system in Wistar rats”. The study was conducted on 36 Wistar rats which were divided into five groups viz., group I (control), group II (malathion 30 mg/kg BW), group III (acetamiprid 27 mg/kg BW), group IV (malathion 30 mg/kg + acetamiprid 13.5 mg/kg) and group V (malathion 30 mg/kg + acetamiprid 27 mg/kg BW) received treatment for 28 days. In the results of study, group III and V rats showed depression, pasty faeces, reduced feed consumption and mild salivation. The relative accessory sex glands weight and weekly body weight of rats from group II, III and V were decreased significantly (P<0.05). However, group IV rats showed slightest altereration in relative weight of accessory sex gland and weekly body weight. Hemato-biochemical findings of group II, III and V revealed significant (P<0.05) decrease in Hb, PCV, TEC, lymphocyte and total protein values along with significant increase in TLC, neutrophil, ALT, AST, ALP and BUN count as compared with control. In reproductive parameter analysis, drastic decrease in sperm motility, live spermatozoa count and serum testosterone level was observed. Whereas, higher sperm abnormality and increased dead spermatozoa count was observed in group II, III and V as compared to group IV and control rats. Grossly, prominent pin point haemorrhages on liver were observed in group II and III. Histopathologically, liver, kidney, testis and brain section revealed alterations, where severe alteration such as degenerative changes and focal areas of necrosis of these organs were found in group II, III and V. In conclusion, acetamiprid alone and its high dose combination with malathion produces deleterious effect on haematobiochemicals and reproductive parameters. However, acetamiprid at low dose combination with malathion, antagonizes toxic effect of malathion on haematobiochemicals and reproductive parameters.
