Abstract: Present study was undertaken to assess the extent of heterosis for yield and yield components by developing hybrids in haif diallele pattern and heterosis for powdery mildew resistance and to understand the genetic effects of Specific and General Combining ability for yield and yield attributing traits and powdery mildew resistance. Hybrids; R6 135-7-P2B2P9 X II SL and 30KRDS-1-9 X II SL were found superior with respect to days to 50% flowering and days to maturity over mean of crosses for both the characters. Hybrids were screened under epiphytotic conditions and as well under field conditions. The hybrids 60KRDS-1 X R5 1 ST BLOCK-9 was is early maturing and high yielding. Hybrids; LR X R6135-7-P2B2P9, 60KRDS-1 X 30KRDS-1-9 and LR X IISL were found to be early maturing , high yielding and moderately resistant to powdery mildew. The extent of heterosis percent for powdery mildew resistance was prominent ranged from -55.55 to 169.2 and seed yield ranged from -22.64 to 57.54. Analysis for combining ability revealed higher magnitude of SCA than GCA variance for characters studied i.e., Days to 50%flowering , Plant height, Number of pods per plant, 1000 seed weight and Yield per plant. indicated predominance of non-additive gene action. Total tannins were positively correlated with disease resistance. Total sugars were positively correlated with disease susceptibility. Specific leaf weight was found to be negatively correlated with disease susceptibility.Chlorophyll content is found to be negatively correlated with susceptibility to Powdery mildew.
