dc.descriptionSapota (Achras zapota L.) is a native of Mexico belonging to the family Sapotaceae. It is a delicious fruit mainly introduced for its fruits. It is also known by several names such as chiku, sapodilla, zapota or sapodilla plum in different regions of the world. The field investigation was carried out during the year 2017-18 in the fruit orchard, Horticultural Research Station, Konda Mallepally to study the “Effect of plant growth regulators on yield and quality of Sapota (Achras zapota L.) under Telangana”. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with 10 treatments and 3 replications. Plant growth regulators like NAA (250, 300 and 350 ppm), 2, 4-D (40, 50 and 60 ppm) and Ethephon (350, 400 and 450 ppm) at varied concentrations were sprayed at flowering and one week after fruit set stage. The maximum fruit weight (105.28 g), fruit length (4.99 cm), fruit diameter (62.42 mm), volume of fruit (102.91 ml), pulp weight (96.26 g), pulp percentage (93.18 %), yield per tree (23.52 kg), yield per hectare (26.13 t) and extended shelf life (7.69 days) with minimum physiological loss in weight ( 6.10 %, 8.11 % and 10.22 % at 3, 6 and 9 days during storage respectively), less number of seeds per fruit (2.2) and seed weight per fruit (0.72 g) were recorded in the trees sprayed with NAA at 350ppm.whereas, minimum number of mummified fruits (21.66) was recorded in the treatment with foliar application of ethephon at 450ppm. Data on quality of fruits differed significantly among the treatments. Total soluble solids (20.26 ˚Brix), reducing sugars (9.13 %), non reducing sugar (6.96 %) and total sugars (15.87 %) were also found to be maximum with ethephon at 450ppm. In this study, the application of growth regulator i.e., NAA at 350ppm was found to be better as revealed by the results and thus can be recommended to increases the fruit size and yield parameters of sapota.en_US
