Abstract: Evaluation of combining ability and heterosis was done using 15 lines (7 indigenous and 8 exotic) and three well adapted, early maturing indigenous genotypes as testers in a line × tester mating design. From these parental lines, 45 crosses were developed during rabi 2015-16. In rabi 2016-17, a total of 63 entries (18 parents + 45 F1s) were evaluated for seed yield and related traits. The non-additive gene action played significant role in inheritance of all the seed yield and contributing traits. Combining ability studies revealed that the lines Baner and Belinka were promising general combiners for seed yield and related traits. The highest value of heterobeltiosis was observed for seed yield per plant (226.62%) followed by primary branches per plant (192.17%). In case of standard heterosis, highest value was observed for primary branches (263.66%) followed by secondary branches (178.59%) per plant. Based on per se performance, SCA effects and extent of heterosis cross combination KL-284 × JLS-73 was found to be most promising for seed yield and related traits. While, the cross combination Ottawa × RLC-133 showed desirable extent of heterosis for earliness as well as for seed yield and related traits.
