Abstract: The objective of this study was to compare the effect of Butylated Hydroxy Toluene (BHT), α-tocopherol (Vit E) and ascorbic acid (Vit C) on semen quality parameters of Deccani rams during storage at 5°c for 24, 48, 72 hrs post collection and dilution. A total of 60 ejaculates from 6 Deccani rams (10 ejaculates per each ram) was collected by artificial vagina and were extended with Tris citrate fructose egg yolk. BHT (2mM), vitamin E (2mg), Ascorbic acid (2mg) were added per ml of extended semen and control group without any antioxidant. Results of the present study revealed that addition of BHT, Vit E and ascorbic acid in extender improved sperm cell function, such as motility, viability, HOST, and acrosome integrity, decreased sperm abnormalities as compared to the control during liquid storage up to 72 hrs of preservation at refrigerated temperature (5ºC). All semen parameters declined with time in all of antioxidant groups. However Sperm motility, viability and acrosome integrity were significantly (p<0.05) high in extender fortified with BHT, Vit E and ascorbic acid at different hours of incubation as compared to the control. Total abnormalities were significantly (p<0.05) low in extender fortified with BHT, Vit E and ascorbic acid at different hours of incubation as compared to the control. HOST positive sperms were significantly (p<0.05) high in extender fortified with Vit E, BHT and Ascorbic acid at different hours of incubation as compared to the control. In present study all semen parameters were significantly (P<0.05) differ between control and test groups. While, there was no significant difference (P>0.05) between BHT and vitamin E group.
