Abstract: Sugarcaneisoneoftheseveralspeciesoftallperennialtruegrassesofthe genusSaccharum,tribeAna’mpogoneae,nativetothewarmtemperateto tropical regionsofSouthAsiaandMelanesia,andusedforsugarproduction.Indiaisoneof themostsugarcaneproducingcountriesintheworldwhichcovers18.52%areaand contributes18.45%sugarcaneproductionoftheworld.Medakistheleadingproducer ofsugarcaneinTelangana.Withagoaltoestablishperformancemeasuresofthe sugarcaneharvester, four field trials were conducted inthe cane fields ofKohir Mandal, Medak district. Theheight ofcutofsugarcane above theground using sugarcaneharvesterhasanaveragevalueof4.1cmwhereasmanualharvestinghasan averagevalueof10.8cmabovetheground.Theharvestertakesanaveragetimeof3 hwhereasmanualharvestingtakesanaveragetimeof9htoharvestoneacre.The fieldcapacityobtainedformechanicalharvestinghasanaveragevalueof0.141ha/h whereasmanual harvestinghas an averagevalueof0.045 ha/h. Fromthepresent study,thecostofharvestingiscalculatedfromfourdifferentfieldtrialsforsugarcane harvesterwhichhasanaverageofRs.841 pertonwhereasthecostofharvestingin manualoperationisRs. 1500perton.Widerrowspacingwithmechanizationwould provetobeprofitableintermsofcaneyieldandharvestingcostthannarrowspacing.
