Abstract: Rabi sorghum is highly valued because of its excellent grain and fodder quality. Rabi hybrids are not popular because of low heterosis and high susceptibility to shootfly incidence. Hence, a study was conducted on genetic diversity analysis for shootfly resistance and yield traits among rabi sorghum B and R lines developed at RARS, Vijayapur (Karnataka) and ICRISAT, Patancheru. The experiment was carried out during rabi 2013-14 at RARS, Vijayapur. A total of 130 genotypes involving B lines (86), R lines (43) and a shootfly resistant check formed the experimental material. Those coded with BLT and RLT were the lines developed at RARS, Vijayapur. There were 11 clusters formed from the 130 genotypes. Maximum intra cluster distance (9.21) was shown by cluster IV. Maximum inter cluster distance (26.45) was found between the clusters V and VII. Among B vs B combinations, maximum D2 values were found between BLT 4 and 98906, followed by BLT 4 with ICSB 15 and ICSB 74, while in R vs R combinations, ICSR 166 showed maximum distance with RLT 9, followed by with RLT 22. These combinations can be used for development of heterotic pool of B and R lines. Among B vs R combinations, BLT 4 of cluster V showed maximum D2 values with three R lines of cluster I viz., R354, ICSR 166 and ICSR 160. BLT 4, 5516, 98906, ICSB 15, ICSR 160, ICSR 172, ICSR 92026, RLT 9 and RLT 16 can be used for further developing B and R lines, and new hybrids resistant to shootfly damage. BLT 8, RLT 1, RLT 7, RLT 9, RLT 14, RLT 22, RLT 23, RLT 25, and RLT 26 showed on par or better performance than the standard checks for yield and shootfly resistant traits and thus can be used for further breeding programs.
