Abstract: The present study was carried out to assess nature and magnitude of exploitable variability exists in pre selected advanced clones for rust resistance and economic traits in both organic and integrated environments during 2013-14 at Agricultural Research Station, Sankeshwar. The GCV and PCV for germination per cent, single cane weight, cane yield, brix yield, rust incidence and CCS were higher, whereas moderate variability was observed for juice extraction per cent, green top weight, cane height and internode length. The clustering of 39 advanced clones into five clusters based on 30 STMS marker analysis also revealed divergence between the genotypes. Among five clusters, cluster II was the largest with 22 clones. Maximum genetic similarity recorded between SNK 0813333 and SNK 0813335 and between SNK 0813360 and SNK 083362 and minimum genetic relatedness was observed between SNK 0813362 and SNK 08441 and between SNK 0813323 and SNK 088955 and primers NKS 8, NKS 30, NKS 33 and NKS 45 were particularly useful in diversity studies. In case of biochemical analysis, though phenols, reducing sugar and total sugar content were significantly higher in diseased leaves than the healthy leaves but there was no definite trend or correlation with reaction, hence it requires further analysis in detail. The genotypes viz., SNK 081375 and SNK 088955 were superior for cane productivity and juice quality parameter than the Co 86032. So these promising clones would be advanced to large scale yield trials across diverse locations and could also be utilized as parental material for genetic enhancement of cane productivity in the current breeding programmes. Highly resistant genotype SNK 0811379 can be used as donor for rust resistant breeding programmes, as it has recorded better cane productivity and juice quality.
