Abstract: The present study on line x tester analysis in greengram {Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczeck) was conducted during kharif 2014 with die objectives to estimate the general combining ability (GCA) effects of parents, to estimate the specific combining ability (SCA) of crosses for seed yield and it’s components and to study the extent of heterosis in respect of characters viz ., days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, plant height (cm), number of clusters per plant, number of pods per cluster, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, 100 seed weight (g), seed yield per plant (g), pod length (cm) and protein per cent, involving four lines and six testers and their 24 hybrid combinations with one standard check. Among the male parents RMG 991 was good general combiners for seed yield per plant and most of the traits. Among female parents BM 4 and BM 2002-1 were relatively good general combiner for most of the traits than Vaibhav and JL 781. The crosses Vaibhav X AKM 9904, BM 4 X COGG 912, JL 781 X IPM 02-14, JL 781 X RMG 991, BM 2002-1 X JEM 02-14, JL-78LX-MH 0245^ VaibhavJCIEM-0244 andJ/aibhav-X MH 02-15 exhibited highly significant sea effects in desirable direction for yield and its components. The best specific cross combination for seed yield per plant was BM 2002-1 X IPM 02-14. The highest mid parent heterosis of 56.17 per cent was recorded by cross Vaibhav X AKM 9904 for number of pods per plant The cross BM 2002-1 X IPM 02-14 (46.51%) recorded highest better parent heterosis for number of pods per plant. While the cross Vaibhav X AKM 9904 (50.41%) showed high percentage of standard heterosis for number of pods per plant.
