Abstract: The investigation entitled "Effect of certain chemical treatments on shelf life of guava (Psidium guajava L.) CV. ALLAHADBAD Safeda "was conduced with the objectives (i) to extend post harvest shelf life of fruits and (ii) to preserve the quality with minimum post harvest losses. The treatments were control, 1% CaNO3, 1000 ppm ccc, 150 ppm NAA, 150 gauge polyethylene bag with 5% vent; 150 gauge polyethylene bag with 5 % vent + 1 % CaN03, 150 gauge polyethylene bag with 5 % vent + 1000 ppm ccc and 150 gauge polyethylene bag with 5 % vent + 150 ppm NAA. The results revealed that the 150 gauge polyethylene bag with 5% vent + 1000 ppm ccc treatment was effective in reducing the cumulative physiological post harvest weight losses of the fruits. Total sugars, Total soluble solids, ascorbic acid and reducing sugars, were significantly higher due to 150 gauge polyethylene bag with 5% vent + 1000 ppm ccc. The same treatment was significantly effective in lowering the acidity, on the whole, it was observed that in all the treatments including control, the TSS and sugar contents increased where as the acidity and vitamin C content decreased as the storage period increased.
