Abstract: Evaluation of different sprayers viz., knapsack sprayer, Taiwan sprayer, Tractor mounted HTP sprayer, Gator sprayer, Air blast sprayer and ULV sprayer, different oil carriers for ULV sprayer viz., Sunflower oil, Neem oil, Sesamum oil, mineral oil and sugar solution for management of pod borer, Helicoverpa armiger (Hubner) and different nozzles viz., Hallow cone nozzle, Flood jet nozzle, Duromist nozzle, Flat fan nozzle and Adjustable (1 and 2) for spray volume requirement and droplet size in pigeonpea ecosystem was undertaken at Agricultural Research Station, Gulbarga during 2011-12 Kharif season. Among the different sprayers studied using chemicals viz., methomyl, azadirachtin, Hanpv and rynaxypyr for the management of pod borer Taiwan and Tractor mounted HTP sprayers registered lowest pod borer population of 0.33 and 0.33 per five plants respectively at 9 days after last spray and highest seed yield of 11.51 and 10.27 q/ha respectively. Among the different oil carriers evaluated using ULV sprayer, Sesamum and Neem oil carriers recorded lowest pod borer population of 2.0 and 2.33 per five plants respectively at 9 days after last spray and highest seed yield of 9.43 and 9.04 q/ha respectively. Among the different spray nozzles evaluated in Knapsack sprayer, Duromist nozzle recorded lowest spray volume requirement per hectare with droplet size of 195 μm, and Adjustable nozzle-1 recorded highest spray volume requirement with droplet size of 297 μm. Similarly, among the different sprayers, ULV sprayer recorded lowest spray volume requirement per hectare with droplet size of 19 μm, and Tractor sprayer recorded highest spray volume requirement with droplet size of 240 μm. Overall present study clearly indicated that Taiwan and Tractor mounted HTP sprayers performed well and maintained its superiority over other sprayers and Sesamum and Neem oil carriers proved very effective in improving the efficiency of ULV sprayer for management of pod borer in pigeonpea ecosystem as compared to other oil carriers and sugar formulations.
